A gift to the Baroness from the SYHA

WANLOCKHEAD


The paternal family (Mitchell) of the Baroness hails from Wanlockhead in Dumfrieshire, Scotland.

At 1531 feet above sea level, Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland, located on the famous Southern Upland Way coast-to-coast walk. The isolated location of Wanlockhead was used for the filming of the BBC1 comedy drama 'Hope Springs', and featured the Lotus Lodge in 2009.  Here is a short BBC video clip showing some local scenes. The cottages of Mitchell Place (1-4 inc) shown below were built around 1910 and are listed buildings.
